Under 13’s & Under15’s

E.I.S Stadium Sheffield – Sunday 2nd February 2020

The 2020 Northern Indoor Championships, for athletes in the under13, and under 15 age categories, were held at the English Institute of Sports stadium, in Sheffield. This was the first major championship meeting, of 2020, for young athletes, based in in Northern England. Six of Kingston’s talented youngsters, made the trip over to Sheffield, to compete at the Championship meeting.

Under 13 Girls

High Jump

Emily Marshall, made her Kingston debut, in April 2018 at the club’s annual ‘open meeting’. The following year saw her gain selection, for the junior team, in their campaign in the UK YDL league, where she was in action in every match, covering high jump and long jump. She was also selected for the County team, at the Inter County Match. She made her major championship debut, at this Northern Indoor event, where she was in action, in the under 13 girls high jump final, where her clearance, at a new PB height of 1.43 metres, a 3cm improvement, secured her the gold medal.

Sprints

Chloe Sutton, made her club debut, in April 2018, she is also a member of the junior team, who covered the sprints and relays, in all of the 2019 YDL matches. She was a 200 metres finalist, at last year’s County championship meeting, and also gained County selection. This was her major championship debut, where she ran in the 60 metres and 200 metres sprint events. She was drawn to run in heat 3 of the 60 metres, her first race over the distance, saw her take a 3rd place finish, and establish a PB of 9.13 sec. Drawn in heat 3 of the 200 metres, she took another 3rd place finish, with her season’s best run of 30.74 sec. She missed the final cut, in both races.

Under 13 Boys

Keijimi Ashaolu, made his Kingston debut, in May last year, at a York summer league, open meeting. He was kept busy, throughout the spring and summer, at open’s in Lincolnshire and Yorkshire. He made his major championship debut, at this Northern indoor event, where he competed in both the 60 metre and 200 metres sprints, and the 800 metres final. The 60 metres event, saw him drawn in the third of the heats, in his first run over the distance, he took a 4th place finish, and established a PB of 9.03 sec.

Drawn in heat 2 of the 200 metres, which again was his first race over that distance took 3rd place, and established a PB of 31.21 sec. His third race came, in the final of the 800 metres, where was the 6th place finisher, establishing a PB of 2:58.78 sec.

Under 15 Girls

60 metre Sprints

Olivia Doyle, was drawn to run in heat 3 of the 60 metre sprints, the County Schools 100 metres champion, took a 4th place finish, running a new PB of 8.52 sec, taking 0.42 off her old mark, and secured a place in the semi finals, where her run of 8.62 sec, saw her miss out on the cut for the final. Training partners Tilly Cairns and Libby Hakney, were drawn together, in heat 5. Tilly was the winner of the race, running a new PB of 8.28 sec, a 0.02 improvement. Libby Hakney took 3rd place, with her run of 8.58 sec. Both girls qualified for the semi finals. The semi final draw, once again saw Tilly and Libby, both drawn together, in semi final 3, where Tilly was the race winner, running a time of 8.30 sec, and Libby ran a seasons best time of 8.44 sec, both girls qualified for the final. In the 60 metres final, Tilly Cairns, took the bronze  medal, running a new PB of 8.44 sec, shaving 0.05 sec, off her old best.

Long Jump

Olivia Doyle, saw further action, in the under 15 girls long jump final. With a field of 36 athletes, the event was split into an A and B final. Olivia was seeded in the ‘B’ final, where she jumped a new PB of 4.55 metres, 22cm past her old mark, which saw her win the competition.
